James immediately tightened his grip on Megan’s arm, forcing a tight, artificial smile onto his face. He adjusted his collar, trying to project the image of a wealthy, respectable husband dealing with a difficult wife. "No problem at all, Captain," James said, his voice dripping with condescension. "My wife just had a clumsy fall at home before we left. She’s a bit anxious about flying. Now, if you'll excuse us, we have first-class seats to catch."

Captain Richard didn't move an inch. His eyes shifted from James's defensive posture to Megan’s face. Up close, the bruising was unmistakable—it wasn't the result of a simple fall. The fingerprint-shaped marks on her wrist, where James was still squeezing, told an entirely different story.
