The Storm Before the Calm

The Mediterranean wind howled like a banshee, tearing at the glass facade of the exclusive Cannes art gallery perched precariously on the sea cliffs. Rain lashed down, turning the black marble terrace into a slick, reflective obsidian mirror that mirrored the indigo twilight and the jagged forks of lightning splitting the stormy sky. The air thrummed with the primal roar of the crashing waves below, a symphony of nature's fury. Amidst this tempest, a different kind of storm was brewing. Vivian Beaumont, a man whose arrogance was as sharp as his bespoke ivory silk tuxedo, stood over Jack, his chauffeur. Vivian’s predatory smirk was chilling as he deliberately flicked vintage champagne from a crystal flute, the golden liquid splashing onto Jack’s polished dress boots.

"Know your place, stray dog—you'll rot in that uniform while I own this entire coast!"

Jack, his weathered face impassive, remained silent. His jaw clenched rhythmically, his steel-gray eyes fixed on Vivian, unblinking. Cold raindrops traced paths down his stoic cheek, each one a testament to his silent endurance. He was a statue carved from granite, unmoved by Vivian’s venomous words. But then, the gallery's heavy glass doors burst open with a violent shudder against the gale. Genevieve, the runaway bride, sprinted barefoot across the wet marble, her couture French lace gown a tattered flag in the wind, her veil fluttering like a ghost. Her eyes, swollen and tear-rimmed, blazed with a fury that belied her fragile appearance. In a gesture of pure defiance, she ripped the diamond engagement ring from her trembling finger and hurled it with all her might, striking Vivian squarely in the chest.

"Don't you dare touch him, Vivian—this wedding is dead and so are we!"

Her chest heaved, tears streaming through smudged mascara. Vivian’s smug sneer froze, replaced by a mask of stunned disbelief. His eyes widened, his Adam's apple bobbing nervously as the reality of her rejection slammed into him.
