The Reckoning at St. Jude's

The autumn drizzle had settled over the city like a shroud, turning the usually bustling streets around St. Jude's Academy into a glistening, melancholic landscape. Amber coach lights struggled to pierce the overcast sky, casting long, distorted reflections on the wet slate cobblestones. My breath plumed in the frigid air, a stark white vapor against the somber backdrop. I stood on the sidewalk, the towering spiked wrought-iron gates of the elite academy a familiar, yet now deeply ironic, symbol of the life Brock Henderson had built on my back.

He stood beside his pearl-white Maybach, a ridiculous monument to his success, a sneer etched on his perfectly groomed face. His silver-streaked hair was slicked back, his stubble manicured, and his charcoal cashmere overcoat was draped with an air of insufferable arrogance. A silk scarf fluttered mockingly in the damp breeze. He embodied everything I had fought against, everything I had sacrificed for, and now, everything I was about to reclaim.
