The Confrontation and the Hidden Truth

Richard gently helped Rachel to her feet, shielding her from the remaining shards of glass. He pulled a clean linen handkerchief from his vest pocket and wrapped it tenderly around her bleeding palm. His presence was calm, an anchor in the middle of her chaotic storm.

"I've got you," Richard whispered, his voice deep and reassuring. "He won't hurt you anymore."

Before Rachel could ask who he was, Richard stood up and turned his attention to the exit. The bald man, whom Rachel recognized all too well as Victor, was just pushing the outer door open. But Richard’s voice cut through the tavern like a whip.

"Stop right there, Victor," Richard commanded.

The entire room went silent. Victor froze, his shoulders tensing under his leather jacket. He slowly turned around, a smug, arrogant smirk plastered across his face. He looked at Richard, then back at Rachel, sneering contemptuously.

"And who are you supposed to be? Her knight in shining armor?" Victor mocked, taking a step back into the tavern. "This pathetic girl owes me. She knows what she did."

Rachel shrank back, her heart pounding. Victor was her ex-husband, a manipulative man who had stolen her family inheritance, leaving her penniless and forced to work under the radar just to survive. He had tracked her down to terrorize her into signing away the final remaining assets of her late father’s estate.

But Richard didn't back down. Instead, a cold, knowing smile spread across his face as he reached into his trench coat. He pulled out a thick manila folder and tossed it onto a nearby table.

"I am the new owner of this establishment, and the man who just bought out your debt," Richard revealed. "I know exactly what you did to her, Victor. And your little game ends tonight."
