A Father's Fury Ignites

The autumn drizzle fell relentlessly, turning the cobblestone streets outside Northwood Academy into glistening mirrors. A cold mist hung in the air, clinging to the gothic stone archways like a shroud. It was here, under the oppressive gray sky, that a scene of raw inequality unfolded. Gregory Thorne, a boy who seemed to exude arrogance as easily as he breathed, stood over Ruth Shaw. Clad in a pristine navy blazer, his blond hair slicked back, he sneered at Ruth, who was huddled in an oversized, frayed coat, her dark hair plastered to her pale, shivering cheeks. She clutched her waterlogged textbooks like a shield, her eyes welling with unshed tears. Gregory’s voice, laced with aristocratic malice, cut through the steady hiss of the rain: “Scholarship vermin like you don’t belong breathing our air!” Ruth remained silent, her chin quivering, a picture of paralyzed helplessness against the cold, wrought-iron gates.

Suddenly, with a vicious crack that echoed even over the rain, Gregory’s open hand struck Ruth’s cheek. Her head snapped sideways, textbooks scattering across the wet stones as she stumbled, falling to her knees. The sharp sting of the blow was evident in her sharp gasp, her hand flying to her throbbing cheek. Gregory’s mocking laughter followed, “On your knees where you belong!” Ruth could only weep, a silent testament to the humiliation and shock that washed over her. Just as the scene threatened to descend further into despair, the rhythmic stomp of heavy combat boots broke the somber atmosphere. Emerging from the icy mist was Nathan Shaw, Ruth’s father. His weathered M-65 jacket, scarred jawline, and steel-gray eyes spoke of a life far removed from the privileged halls of Northwood. He advanced, his presence a palpable force, his voice a low, terrifying baritone: “Take your filthy hands off my daughter.” Gregory, momentarily startled, arched his eyebrows dismissively, his smug smirk faltering.
