Previously: A spoiled bully's cruel taunts turn violent, but the arrival of a formidable father changes everything. Justice is served on a cold, rainy sidewalk.

A Father's Fury

The atmosphere crackled with unspoken tension. Courtney Sterling, despite the genuine terror gripping him, attempted to mask his fear with a desperate, hysterical bravado. He puffed out his chest, attempting to regain some semblance of his former arrogance, and jabbed a manicured finger toward Marcus Vance’s unblinking face. “Do you know who my father is?!” he demanded, his voice cracking with a high-pitched, stuttering desperation. “I will buy your entire miserable family!”

“Do you know who my father is?! I will buy your entire miserable family!”

Marcus Vance remained utterly still, a statue of granite. His jaw muscles clenched into rigid iron cords, his nostrils flaring almost imperceptibly as his cold, predatory gaze locked directly onto Courtney’s exposed sternum. The air thrummed with the unspoken threat, a promise of consequences far beyond Courtney’s pampered understanding. The drizzle continued, each drop seeming to punctuate the charged silence.

Then, with an explosive burst of kinetic velocity, Marcus’s right arm snapped forward. It was a blur of controlled power, a military-grade open-palm strike aimed with devastating precision directly at Courtney's solar plexus. The impact was thunderous, a concussive force that created a heavy shockwave sound texture. Courtney’s expensive camel-hair coat visibly caved inward. The 180-pound bully was lifted completely off his feet, hurled through the air like a discarded toy. He flew backward a good five feet, slamming violently against the ornate iron gates before collapsing into a muddy gutter, gasping for breath.

“Touch my son again, boy, and you won't live to ask who I am!”

Marcus Vance stepped into a forward combat stance, his presence radiating raw, untamed authority. His voice, when he spoke, was a low, thunderous growl, guttural and absolute. “Touch my son again, boy, and you won't live to ask who I am!” Courtney lay crumpled in the mud, paralyzed in breathless agony. Rainwater washed over his terrified, pale face as he clutched his bruised ribs with trembling hands. The sneer was gone, replaced by the stark, unadulterated fear of a child who had just met something far more powerful than his father’s influence.

As Noah watched, a wave of relief washed over him, quickly followed by a deep unease. He knew his father. He knew the quiet intensity that lay beneath the surface. This wasn’t just about defending him; there was something else simmering in his father’s eyes, a deeper, older pain. He saw his father glance at the imposing academy building, a flicker of something unreadable crossing his face before he turned back to his son, his expression softening slightly.
