Previously: When Clara and Mark were violently cornered by a Capitol police officer, they thought their mission to expose a corrupt politician was over. But a shocking ally changed everything.

A Betrayal Exposed in the Shadows

Instead of offering medical assistance, Officer Vance lunged forward, grabbing Clara’s purse from her trembling hands. His eyes held a desperate, hungry look that went far beyond standard security protocol. Mark immediately stood up, placing himself between the aggressive officer and his wife.

"You have no right to search her bag! We haven't committed any crime, and we demand to speak to your supervisor!"

Mark shouted, his voice echoing off the stone walls. Vance ignored him, aggressively unzipping the purse and dumping its contents onto the hood of the police cruiser. He was searching for one specific item: a small, silver flash drive containing the leaked financial records of Senator Sterling—Clara's stepfather.

Officer Miller approached slowly, his brow furrowed in deep concern. He had served with Vance for years, but this level of hostility toward cooperative citizens was unprecedented. Miller reached out, touching Vance's shoulder.

"Hey, Vance, take it easy. What's the charge here? They were just walking toward the press entrance,"

Miller questioned quietly. Vance snapped his head around, his face flushed with anger. "They are security threats, Miller! Put them in the back of the car while I secure the evidence!" he barked.

Just then, Vance’s personal cell phone buzzed loudly on his tactical vest. The screen illuminated with a text message. Standing just behind him, Miller’s eyes locked onto the glowing display. The sender was listed as Senator Sterling, and the message was chillingly brief: "Get the drive from her at all costs. Do not let them reach the press."

A cold wave of realization washed over Miller. This wasn't a standard security intervention; it was an illegal, politically motivated hit job ordered by one of the most powerful men in the country. And his own partner was the weapon.
