Previously: When Captain Sarah shielded her injured sister from a sudden hospital attack, she thought the danger was over. But the attacker’s parting words exposed a devastating conspiracy.

The Trap and the Truth

Sarah knew she had to act fast, but she couldn't do it openly. Returning to the hospital under the cover of darkness, she secretly moved Chloe to an empty, unlisted recovery room on the third floor. In Chloe's original bed, Sarah arranged pillows under the blanket to mimic a sleeping figure, dimming the lights to create the perfect illusion of vulnerability. Then, she hid in the shadows of the adjacent bathroom, her hand resting on her service weapon, waiting for the traitor to show his face.

Hours ticked by in agonizing silence. Just past midnight, the door clicked open. A shadowed figure slipped into the room, holding a syringe filled with a lethal dose of potassium chloride. As the figure approached the bed, raising the syringe to inject it into the IV line, Sarah stepped out, flipping on the light switch.

"Drop it, Briggs," Sarah commanded, her voice steady but laced with lethal intent.

Officer Briggs froze, his face draining of color as he looked from the empty bed to the barrel of Sarah’s gun. Realizing he was caught, he slowly dropped the syringe and raised his hands in surrender. With backup arriving moments later—officers Sarah had personally selected for their loyalty—Briggs was led away in handcuffs, his career and his conspiracy shattered. He would face charges that would put him away for life.

Chloe was finally safe, the ledger was recovered, and the corruption within the department was routed out from the top down. As Sarah sat by her sister's bedside the next morning, the bond between them was stronger than ever. In the end, Sarah realized that justice isn't just about wearing a badge; it's about having the courage to protect the ones you love, no matter how deep the betrayal lies. They had survived the storm, and together, they would rebuild their lives.
