The bedroom felt like a cage. Mark stood blocking the only door, holding a heavy pen out toward Chloe. The man she had planned to spend her life with had turned into a ruthless predator.

"Sign it, Chloe," Mark urged, taking a step closer. "Sign it, and I’ll let Sarah go. If you don't, things are going to get very ugly."

Chloe looked at Sarah, whose eyes pleaded with her not to sign. Chloe knew that if she signed, Mark would have no reason to keep them safe. He would eliminate them both to cover his tracks. She needed a distraction.

Slowly, Chloe reached out her hand as if to take the pen. Mark smiled, thinking he had won. But just as his grip relaxed, Chloe grabbed the heavy crystal vase from the nightstand and threw it directly at the bedroom window.

The glass shattered with a deafening crash, showering the driveway below. At the same moment, the sound of blaring sirens filled the night air, growing louder by the second. Blue and red lights began to flash through the broken window, illuminating the dark room.

Mark froze, his face pale with terror. "What did you do?" he hissed.

"I didn't call them," Chloe whispered, her heart racing.

Sarah let out a weak sob. "I did. Before Mark took my phone, I set up an emergency SOS alert. It triggers automatically if I don't check in every hour. They tracked my GPS straight here."

The front door downstairs was kicked open with a heavy thud. Footsteps pounded up the stairs. Within seconds, police officers burst into the bedroom, guns drawn. They tackled Mark to the ground, securing him in handcuffs as he screamed curses at Chloe.

Chloe sank to the floor, wrapping her arms around Sarah. The betrayal she thought she had suffered was actually the ultimate act of friendship. Sarah had risked her life to save her.
