For a long moment, the bedroom was silent save for the sound of Chloe's ragged breathing. Mark and Sarah stood shoulder to shoulder, wearing victorious smiles. Sarah’s smirk wavered. "What are you talking about?" she demanded, her tone suddenly defensive.

Chloe stepped closer, her eyes locked onto her husband.

"Dad knew exactly who you were, Sarah. He knew about your gambling debts, and he knew you'd try to forge or manipulate his estate. That 'signed' will you have in that envelope? It’s a draft he purposefully left in his desk to test you. The actual, legally binding will was registered with his attorney and a private notary three months before he passed. It contains a strict disinheritance clause for any family member who attempted to contest it or commit fraud."

Mark’s face drained of color.

"You're lying,"

"I'm not," Chloe replied smoothly. "And as for you, Mark, I filed for divorce yesterday morning. I've already frozen our joint accounts, which were funded entirely by my inheritance. The police are downstairs right now because I reported the theft of my mother's heirloom jewelry from the safe—which I notice is currently missing from my closet."

Right on cue, the muffled sound of sirens echoed from the driveway. Sarah gasped, panic finally setting in as she realized the trap had snapped shut. Chloe stood tall, watching the two schemers who had tried to ruin her life crumble in fear.
