The Storm Before the Wedding

The grand marble lobby of the five-star hotel shimmered under the cold, indigo radiance of a midnight storm. Torrential rain hammered against the twenty-foot glass curtain walls, each violent flash of lightning momentarily illuminating the opulent space. Mirror-polished black-and-gold Italian marble floors reflected the warm amber glow cast by heavy crystal chandeliers, creating dramatic chiaroscuro shadows. Muffled thunder reverberated, a constant, low growl accompanying the sharp, wet squeaks of soaked leather shoes. Amidst this dramatic backdrop stood Carter Ross, 28, his sharp, aristocratic features contorted in a sneer. His slicked hair was a damp mess, his bespoke midnight-blue silk tuxedo clinging to him, the silk bow tie askew. Veins bulged on his flushed neck as he viciously jabbed a diamond-cufflinked index finger into the chest of Tommy, 26.

Tommy, ruggedly chiseled and with dark curls plastered to his brow, stood stoically in his tailored charcoal wool chauffeur uniform. His tarnished brass buttons gleamed faintly, and his wet leather gloves seemed to absorb the tension. "Know your place, trash!" Carter spat, saliva misting in the air under the chandelier light. "You're just a three-dollar-an-hour chauffeur begging for my scraps!" Tommy remained silent, his mouth closed, eyes fixed forward, a subtle muscle twitch betraying the storm raging within. Water trickled down his cheekbone, mimicking the silent tears that threatened to spill.

"Know your place, trash! You're just a three-dollar-an-hour chauffeur begging for my scraps!"

Carter, consumed by his own arrogance, wound up his right arm, intending to deliver a humiliating slap. But Tommy's gloved hand exploded upward with blinding speed, intercepting Carter's wrist mid-air. A sharp, bone-thudding impact echoed in the lobby as Tommy’s hand twisted Carter’s arm with effortless, terrifying torque. Carter cried out, his eyes widening in paralyzed shock as he was forced onto his knees on the slick marble floor, his breath hitching.

"Don't mistake my patience for submission, Carter."

Tommy’s voice was a chilling baritone, each word measured and controlled. Carter, on his knees, could only gasp, his chin quivering in breathless agony. The storm outside raged on, mirroring the tempest that had just erupted within the hotel's luxurious walls.
