Previously: Eighteen-year-old Logan confronts wealthy Vivian outside a boutique, holding a childhood photo and demanding to know why she abandoned him, unlocking a devastating secret that changes both of their lives forever.

The Stolen Child

Vivian stared at the crumpled photograph in Logan's hand, and all the color drained from her face. She stumbled backward, nearly losing her footing on the slick pavement. Her hand flew to her mouth as she gasped, her eyes darting between the faded image and the wet, tear-streaked face of the teenager standing before her. The resemblance was undeniable; he had her late father's striking green eyes and her own stubborn jawline.

"Where... where did you get that?" Vivian whispered, her voice trembling so violently she could barely project it over the rain. "Who gave this to you?"

Logan wiped his eyes with the back of his wet sleeve, his anger returning. "Martha did," he spat. "The woman who raised me. She told me you were a wealthy socialite who couldn't be bothered with a baby. She said you left me on her doorstep and never looked back!"

Vivian shook her head in sheer horror, tears instantly spilling over her eyelashes. She took a hesitant step toward Logan, her hands outstretched as if reaching for a ghost.

"No, Logan, no... that is a lie," she sobbed, her elegant demeanor completely crumbling. "Martha was my sister’s private nurse. Eighteen years ago, she told me my baby had died during a difficult delivery at home. She even showed me a death certificate!"

Logan felt the ground tilt beneath him. The cold rain suddenly felt burning hot. "What?" he breathed, his heart hammering against his ribs. "She... she stole me?"

"She hated my family," Vivian cried, her voice filled with agonizing grief. "She blamed us for her own misfortunes. I spent years mourning you, Logan. I never abandoned you. She stole my son to punish me!"

Just as Vivian reached out to pull her long-lost son into her arms, the loud wail of a siren pierced the night air. A police cruiser rounded the corner, its red and blue lights reflecting off the wet pavement. Inside the front passenger seat sat Martha, her face twisted in a malicious grin.
