The Unfair Verdict

The atmosphere inside the grand exhibition hall was electric, filled with the low hum of hundreds of spectators and the bright glow of innovative displays. For nineteen-year-old Leo, this day was the culmination of three long, sleepless years spent in his mother’s drafty garage. Adjusting the delicate copper wires of his clean-energy prototype, his heart raced with anticipation. His mother, Sarah, stood beside him, her eyes shining with unshed tears of pride. She had worked endless double shifts at the local diner just to afford the high-grade microchips Leo needed to bring his vision to life.

"I finally did it, Mom," Leo whispered, his voice trembling slightly as the prototype hummed to life, emitting a soft, steady blue light.

Sarah wrapped her arm around his shoulders, squeezing tightly. "You did, sweetheart. Your father would have been so incredibly proud of you today."

But their moment of triumph was abruptly shattered. A towering figure in a sharp navy suit stepped into their booth, casting a long shadow over the display. It was Arthur, the stern and highly influential chief judge of the exposition. Without looking at the digital telemetry or the functioning power cells, Arthur glared coldly at Leo’s name tag.

"Pack your things," Arthur commanded, his voice cold and devoid of any empathy.

Leo froze, his breath catching in his throat. "What?" he gasped, looking at his mother, whose warm smile had instantly vanished.

"You heard me," Arthur declared, his expression hardening. "You're disqualified. Move along."

Before Leo could even process the devastating blow, a sharp, authoritative voice cut through the gathering crowd. Helen, a prominent member of the exposition's review board dressed in a tailored pantsuit, strode forward to confront the chief judge.

"Then why was his project selected by our review committee three months ago, Arthur?" Helen demanded, her eyes flashing with anger.
