Previously: When an elderly woman in a wheelchair brought a dusty watch into a luxury boutique, the manager tried to throw her out—unaware of the secret the old woman held.

The Mask of Cruelty Slips

The absolute silence that followed Clara’s revelation was suffocating. Liam stared back and forth between the vintage photograph and the grand, oil-painted portrait of Arthur Vanguard hanging on the wall. The resemblance was undeniable. The young man in the black-and-white photo, smiling proudly with the prototype watch on his wrist, was indeed the founder of the entire luxury brand.

Sarah’s face drained of color, but her shock quickly morphed into defensive anger. She refused to believe that an elderly woman in a wheelchair, dressed in cheap clothes, could be the matriarch of the Vanguard empire.

"This is a pathetic scam!"
Sarah hissed, her voice trembling with rage.
"Arthur Vanguard's wife passed away years ago. You are nothing but an impostor trying to swindle a free repair and a handout!"

Sarah snatched the photograph from Clara's frail hands, intending to tear it. But Liam stepped forward, quickly grabbing the photo back and shielding Clara.

"That is enough, Sarah!"
Liam declared, his voice echoing through the showroom.
"Look at the watch, look at the signature on the dial. It's authentic!"

"You are fired, Liam!"
Sarah screamed, completely losing her composure.
"Pack your bags and get out! And as for you, old woman, I am calling security to have you dragged out of here!"

Just as Sarah reached for the phone, the heavy front doors opened. Mr. Sterling, the regional director of Vanguard Timepieces, walked into the store for an unannounced inspection. He stopped dead in his tracks as he heard the shouting, his eyes landing on Clara. His face went entirely white.

"Mrs. Vanguard?"
Mr. Sterling gasped, rushing past the stunned manager.
"What on earth is happening here?"
