Mitchell let out a mocking laugh, crossing his thick arms over his chest. He didn't care about some customer's phone call. To him, Tyler was just an easily replaceable kitchen hand who had disobeyed a direct order.

"I don't care who you are, buddy," Mitchell barked, his bald head glistening under the harsh fluorescent lights. "This is my diner, and I run it. The kid is fired. Now, if you're done causing a scene, pay your bill and get out of my establishment."

Andrew didn't flinch. He slowly lowered his phone, keeping his grip on Tyler’s shoulder. The teenage cook stood there, trembling, still wearing his clear plastic gloves, feeling the weight of the entire room's gaze. He felt a sinking feeling in his chest—how was he going to pay the rent now?

But Andrew’s expression was calm, cold, and utterly calculated. He looked Mitchell dead in the eye.

"You think you own this place, Mitchell?" Andrew said, his voice quiet but echoing clearly in the silent diner. "You lease this building from Carter Properties. And I happen to be the chairman of that board. Professionally, I am Dr. Michael Carter, Chief of Medicine at the county hospital. But more importantly, I am a father."

The color drained from Mitchell’s face. The smug grin vanished, replaced by a sudden, choking realization. Carter Properties owned almost the entire commercial strip, including this very diner. Mitchell’s franchise agreement was highly dependent on the goodwill of the landlord.

Andrew looked down at his son Liam, who was now breathing normally and sipping a glass of water. Then, he turned back to Mitchell. "I was going to have a quiet breakfast with my son. Instead, I watched a young man show more humanity and courage in five seconds than you have shown in your entire life. You fired him for saving my boy. Let’s see how you run a diner without a lease."
