Previously: A vicious professor publicly shames a young artist, only for the art world's elite to arrive with an offer that will change her life forever. But the professor's cruelty has deeper roots.

The Unforeseen Intervention

Just as Vivian’s words, laced with aristocratic mockery, settled like a shroud over me, the heavy oak double doors of the courtroom blasted inward with a booming metallic crash. The sound instantly silenced the murmuring gallery, drawing every eye. Striding down the center aisle, as if on a runway, were Julian Vance, the senior managing director of Sotheby’s, and Henri Laurent, chief curator of the Louvre. Their tailored vicuña wool overcoats seemed to absorb the courtroom's tense atmosphere. Behind them, two armed couriers carried locked titanium cases. Vivian's sneer froze, her eyes widening in disbelief. Her manicured hands hovered, caught mid-gesture.

"Halt this proceeding immediately—bailiffs, do not touch that canvas!" Julian Vance’s voice boomed, commanding the space with an authority that dwarfed Vivian’s venom. He pushed past a recoiling Vivian and approached my table. Under the harsh judicial chandelier, he placed an embossed gold-seal acquisition treaty and a certified bank draft directly before me. The contrast between these symbols of immense value and the shredded canvas at my feet was surreal.

"The Musée du Louvre and Sotheby’s have formed an unprecedented consortium to acquire Miss Jack's complete private collection for ten million dollars cash upfront," Vance stated, his words crisp and resonant. He glanced at Vivian, a flicker of something unreadable in his eyes, before turning back to me. Vivian Beaumont, the woman who had wielded her power and cruelty like a scalpel, was visibly disintegrating. The color drained from her face, her throat constricted, her pupils dilated as she hyperventilated in silent humiliation. Her world, built on control and the subjugation of others, was imploding.
