A Crying Girl Interrupted My Wedding With a Photo That Changed My Life Forever
The Uninvited Guest
The stained-glass windows of the grand chapel cast vibrant hues of amber and violet across the aisle. Mark stood at the altar, adjusting his morning coat, his heart beating with a mixture of excitement and anticipation. Next to him stood Vanessa, his beautiful bride-to-be, radiant in her silk gown. Everything was proceeding exactly as his aristocratic family had planned. It was the wedding of the season, a perfect union of wealth and status. But just as the priest cleared his throat to begin the vows, the heavy oak doors at the back of the chapel creaked open, shattering the solemn silence.
A little girl, no older than six, stepped into the church. She wore a simple cream lace dress that was slightly soiled at the hem, and her auburn hair fell in a messy half-up style. She was crying, her shoulders shaking as she clutched a torn piece of paper in her tiny hand. The guests whispered in shock as she bypassed the pews, walking straight toward the altar. Her eyes, filled with desperate tears, locked onto Mark.
"I don't want money, please," she sobbed, her voice echoing off the high stone walls. "I just want my mom not to go to heaven."
Mark felt a sudden, inexplicable pang in his chest. He ignored his mother’s sharp gasp from the front row and knelt down on the cold marble floor. "Who are you? Who sent you?" he asked gently, his heart hammering against his ribs.
"Nobody," the girl wept. "I came because she's dying."
Mark’s eyes fell to the torn paper in her hand. It was half of an old photograph—a photo of himself from his university days. "What's your mother's name?" he whispered.
"Johanda," she replied.
The name felt like a physical blow. Johanda? The woman who had allegedly abandoned him for a payout seven years ago. "She kept your picture," the girl whimpered. Without a second thought, Mark stood up, abandoned his bride at the altar, and ran out of the chapel, following the little girl to the city hospital. Rushing into the quiet room, he found Johanda pale and frail. "I'm here," he cried, taking her cold hand. "Why didn't you tell me?"
Johanda looked at him with tearful eyes. "Because... she's not the only one," she whispered.
”she's not the only one," she whispered.
