My Daughter Said Someone Was in Her Bed, Then I Saw My Husband’s Secret
Previously: When seven-year-old Lily complained of a midnight visitor, Clara checked the security cameras. The footage revealed a terrifying truth about her husband, forcing her into a fight for survival.
Clara stared at her husband, her body freezing under his icy glare. "David, what is this?" she choked out, her voice trembling. "Why were you in Lily's room last night? What did you do to her?"
David stepped closer, the shadows of the living room stretching across his face. He didn't look like the loving stepfather he had pretended to be for the past three years. He looked like a stranger.
"You don't understand, Clara. I am protecting this family. If you go to the police, or tell anyone about this, we lose everything. My career, this house, our life. Delete the footage. Now."
Clara clutched the laptop to her chest, backing away until her spine hit the wall. "No! You're sick, David. I'm taking Lily and leaving!"
In a flash, David lunged forward, grabbing her wrist with a crushing grip. Clara screamed, dropping the laptop onto the couch. In the scuffle, she managed to kick him hard in the shin. He grunted, loosening his grip just enough for her to break free. She didn't hesitate. She bolted up the stairs to Lily's room, locking the door behind her. Her hands shook violently as she grabbed Lily, who woke up confused and crying.
Clara knew they couldn't escape through the front door; David was down there. But as she stood in Lily's room, she heard something strange. It was a rhythmic scratching sound coming from behind Lily's closet wall. It wasn't the sound of pipes. It sounded like breathing.
With adrenaline surging through her veins, Clara pushed the heavy clothes in the closet aside. Hidden behind a false panel was a narrow, dark passage leading down into the crawlspace of the house. Beside the entrance lay a discarded plate of food and a pair of dirty royal blue scrubs—identical to the ones David was wearing. Clara's mind reeled as a horrifying realization washed over her. David wasn't the one in Lily's room. There was someone else living in their house.
