Previously: At her husband’s rain-soaked funeral, Sarah was shattered. But when her five-year-old daughter Lily ran toward the grave clutching a mysterious wooden box, a devastating family secret was finally unearthed.

An Uninvited Guest

The cemetery fell into a stunned silence, broken only by the sound of the pouring rain. Sarah’s hands shook as she picked up the vintage wooden box from the mud. As she turned it over, she noticed a false bottom had popped open from the force of the fall. Inside lay a small brass key and a folded piece of parchment. Before she could read it, Julian was on her, his fingers gripping her wrist with bruising force.

"Give me that box, Sarah! It belongs to the family estate. You have no right to touch Thomas's personal effects!"

Julian’s voice was laced with a desperate fury that sent shivers down Sarah's spine. He tried to wrench the box from her hand, but Sarah held on, shielding Lily with her body. Suddenly, a commanding voice cut through the storm, halting Julian in his tracks.

"Let go of my granddaughter."

From the mist of the cemetery walked an older man leaning heavily on a silver-headed cane. Sarah gasped, and across the grave, Victoria—Thomas’s mother—let out a choked scream, clutching her chest as if she had seen a ghost. It was Arthur. Thomas’s father, who had supposedly died in a tragic car accident ten years ago.

Arthur walked past his horrified family, his eyes locked onto Lily and Sarah. He knelt in the mud, gently taking Lily's hand. "You did well, sweetheart," he whispered, looking at the chess pieces. He then turned his cold, piercing gaze toward Julian and Victoria.

"You told everyone I died," Arthur said, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "You locked me away in a private sanitarium under a false name to seize control of my company. But Thomas found me. He knew what you did, and he was going to expose you both."
