Previously: When Melissa was violently arrested outside City Hall, onlookers gasped at her sudden resistance. But the truth behind her desperate kick revealed a deeper, heartbreaking conspiracy she had to expose.

The Secret Stashed in Plain Sight

As Melissa lay defeated on the ground, tears mingled with the dirt on her face. Officer Robert knelt beside her, his breath heavy, but as he reached down to pull her up, he noticed something protruding from the waistband of her jeans. It was a small, encrypted flash drive, wrapped tightly in a plastic bag. Melissa’s eyes widened in sheer terror as Robert’s fingers closed around it. He quickly slipped it into his pocket before the gathering crowd or the local news cameras could catch a glimpse.

Inside the precinct’s interrogation room, the atmosphere was suffocating. Melissa sat shivering, despite the warmth of the room. Officer Robert entered alone, locking the door behind him. He placed the flash drive on the metal table between them.

"You kicked a police officer, Melissa. That’s a felony," Robert said, his voice low. "But I want to know why a suburban mother is carrying highly classified financial records from the Mayor's office."

Melissa looked up, her eyes red but fierce. "Because my husband, David, is the Mayor's chief of staff," she whispered, her voice trembling. "And he’s framing me. I found out they’ve been embezzling millions from the city's public school fund. When I threatened to go to the DA, David called in a favor. He told the police I was unstable and had stolen classified documents to blackmail him."

Robert stared at her, his mind racing. He had known David for years, and the Mayor was a powerful ally of the police department. But looking at Melissa’s bruised wrists and the genuine terror in her eyes, a sickening realization began to settle in his gut. The warrant for her arrest had been rushed through in record time, personally signed by a judge who was a close friend of the Mayor.

"If I let you go, they will destroy both of us," Robert muttered, realizing the depth of the betrayal he had unwittingly participated in.
