Previously: A cold-hearted corporate developer threatened to demolish an old clockmaker's shop, but the humble craftsman had a secret weapon hidden within an antique timepiece: a royal deed.

A Secret Unwound

The stark contrast between Courtney's aggressive display and Samuel's quiet defiance hung heavy in the air. While Courtney’s icy blue eyes scanned the holographic projections with an arrogant certainty, Samuel’s focus was entirely on the intricate workings of the antique clock. He held an antique brass watchmaker's loupe, his gaze unwavering. As Courtney crossed her arms, a mocking smirk playing on her lips, Samuel’s precision tweezers found a hidden spring. With a barely audible click, a concealed compartment sprang open. Samuel’s guttural, rasping voice cut through the silence, startling Courtney. "You mapped the satellite airspace, Sterling, but you never checked the foundation." As he spoke, a rolled piece of parchment, sealed with authentic wax, expelled from the compartment. Courtney’s smirk vanished, replaced by a flicker of surprise, then irritation. Her French-manicured fingernail tapped impatiently against her platinum watch. Samuel retrieved the parchment, its vellum yellowed and brittle with age. He snapped it open, the sound a crisp counterpoint to the storm outside. He allowed it to drift towards the holographic sensors. The blue blueprints of Sterling Enterprises’ new high-rise flickered violently, glitching and transforming. The projected schematics dissolved, replaced by the unmistakable crest of an ancient British Crown seal and a California territorial sovereign land patent. Courtney's eyes widened, her arrogance rapidly dissolving into furious indignation. "A moldy piece of garbage won't halt fifty-ton excavators!" she spat, her voice rising. Samuel remained unperturbed, raising his brass eye loupe to inspect her with an unnerving, predatory stillness. His jaw clenched, the only outward sign of the battle he was now winning.
