Arthur held his crying sons close, his eyes darting between the handcuffs on Elena's wrists and the cold expression of his mother, Eleanor, who had stepped back onto the porch. "Mother, what is the meaning of this?" Arthur demanded, his voice echoing across the courtyard. "Why is Elena being arrested?"

Eleanor crossed her arms, her voice dripping with artificial sympathy. "Arthur, darling, I caught her red-handed. My diamond heirloom necklace was missing from my vanity. I searched the staff quarters, and we found it slipped right inside her apron pocket. It is a tragedy, but we cannot keep a thief in our home."

"I didn't put it there, Mr. Gable!" Elena cried out, her eyes pleading. "I was cleaning the master bedroom, but I never went near Mrs. Eleanor's room today! Please, you have to believe me!"

Arthur knew Elena's character. She had been their rock ever since his wife passed away two years ago. The boys adored her, and she had always shown absolute integrity. He looked at his mother's smug, unyielding face and felt a deep sense of unease. "Wait," Arthur said to the police officer. "Do not take her yet. I want to see the evidence, and I want to check the security footage."

Eleanor's posture stiffened slightly, a brief flicker of panic crossing her eyes. "Arthur, don't be ridiculous. The cameras in the west wing have been down for maintenance all week. I told you that. There is no footage. The police found the necklace in her possession. That is all the proof we need."

But Arthur wasn't convinced. He remembered that he had recently upgraded the estate's security system to a cloud-based backup, a detail he hadn't yet mentioned to his mother. He pulled out his phone, his heart hammering against his ribs as he logged into the secure administrator portal. He selected the camera overlooking the hallway leading to Elena's locker and the laundry room, filtering the footage from the last two hours.
