The Hangar Confrontation

An hour after the ceremony ended, the airfield cleared, leaving only the echoing wind. Luke waited in the shadows of Hangar 4, just as he had outlined in the encrypted message he slipped to her aide. He heard the click of military heels before he saw her. Evelyn stepped into the dim light of the hangar, her royal blue cap in her hand, her face a mask of anger and confusion.

"You shouldn't be here, Luke," she whispered, her voice trembling despite her best efforts. "If security sees a dishonorably discharged felon on this base, you’ll be arrested."

Luke stepped forward, the skull tattoo on his arm catching the dim hangar light. "I didn't come here to cause trouble, Evie. I came to give you this." He pulled a weathered, encrypted data drive from his pocket and held it out. "Ten years ago, I took the fall for the leaked intel that cost our team their lives. I did it because your father, the General, told me it was the only way to save you from court-martial."

Evelyn scoffed, crossing her arms defensively. "You were the communications officer, Luke. The transmission came from your terminal. My father saved my career, yes, but he couldn't save yours because of what you did."

Luke shook his head, a bitter smile playing on his lips. "I believed that too, until I spent five years in a military brig decrypting the server logs. The transmission didn't originate from my terminal, Evie. It was routed through it. The encryption key belonged to General Carter himself. Your father didn't protect you from me. He framed me to protect his own treasonous arms deal, and to make sure a street-kid sergeant like me never married his golden-child daughter."

Evelyn took a step back, her face draining of color. "No... that's impossible. My father is a hero."

"The truth is on this drive," Luke said softly. "And there's one more thing. I know about Lily."
