Previously: When a dirty, disheveled stranger touches a wealthy paralyzed woman's wheelchair, a miraculous light changes her life forever—and unlocks a heartbreaking secret from her forgotten past.

The Scar and the Shadow

As the intense golden light faded into the afternoon air, the young man collapsed sideways onto the cold stone, unconscious and completely drained of energy. Charlotte sat frozen, her heart hammering against her ribs. Slowly, with a trembling hand, she reached down. For the first time in ten long years, she felt the texture of her cream lace dress against her thighs. She wiggled her toes. A sob tore from her throat. "Abigail," she choked out, "I... I can feel my legs."

Abigail dropped to her knees, weeping and crossing herself in sheer disbelief. But the mystery of the unconscious savior loomed over them. Standing up on shaky, newly awakened legs, Charlotte insisted they bring the young man inside. They laid him on the plush sofa in the drawing room. Abigail fetched warm water and a cloth, gently wiping the thick layers of grime from the stranger’s face.

As the dirt washed away, Charlotte gasped, clutching her chest. Behind the young man's left ear was a distinct, crescent-shaped scar. In an instant, the floodgates of her memory flew open, transporting her back to her childhood before the horrific crash.

"Ethan," she whispered, her voice barely a breath.

Ten years ago, Ethan had been an orphan sponsored by Charlotte’s wealthy family. He had been her older brother Leo's inseparable best friend. But Ethan possessed a secret—a rare, mystical healing touch passed down through his ancestral lineage. The night of the car accident, Leo had died instantly, but Ethan had used the very last of his life force to keep Charlotte alive, though he was too weak to fully heal her spine. In the chaotic aftermath of the tragedy, Ethan had mysteriously vanished from the hospital, leaving Charlotte to believe he had simply abandoned them. Why had he run away, and why had he returned only now, looking like a hunted animal?
