The ballroom descended into utter madness. Victoria howled in outrage, clutching her jaw, while Beatrice screamed for security. But Julian stood frozen, his gaze locked on the woman in the soiled green jacket. Leo was fiercely shielding her, his small arms outstretched.

"Don't touch her!"

the boy yelled, his voice cracking with emotion.

"Daddy, don't let them hurt Mommy!"

The word echoed like a thunderclap. Mommy. Julian’s breath hitched. Three years ago, his wife Clara had vanished without a trace. The police had found her car near a turbulent river, and she was eventually presumed dead. Brokenhearted, Julian had been pressured by his sister Victoria to move on and marry Beatrice to save their family’s struggling shipping empire. But as Julian stepped closer to the dirty woman, looking past the grime, he recognized the unmistakable green of her eyes. It was Clara.

"Julian, please,"

Clara whispered, her voice hoarse and trembling.

"I didn't abandon you. I didn't leave Leo."

"She’s an impostor! Security, drag this crazy woman out of here right now!"

she ordered, her voice shrill with desperation. But Julian raised a hand, stopping the approaching guards. He knelt before the woman he had mourned for three long years.

"Clara? How is this possible? Where have you been?"

he asked, his voice shaking.

Tears carved clean paths through the dirt on Clara's cheeks as she glared at Victoria.

"Ask your sister,"

Clara spat, her voice trembling with years of suppressed rage.

"She and Beatrice's father had me abducted. They paid off a corrupt private facility to keep me locked away under a false name so you would inherit the family estate and marry Beatrice!"
