Previously: When Chloe was cornered by her desperate boyfriend on a desolate basketball court, she thought there was no escape—until her estranged biker father emerged from the shadows.

The Escalation of Violence

Leo laughed, completely misjudging the sheer lethality of the man standing before him. He took a sip of his energy drink and tossed the can aside, stepping closer to Jack in an attempt to intimidate him. But Jack didn't even blink. With a lightning-fast movement, Jack grabbed Leo by the collar of his varsity jacket, twisting the fabric and slamming him against the rusted basketball pole. The impact knocked the wind out of Leo, his smug expression instantly dissolving into sheer terror as Jack stared him down.

“Stay down if you want to keep breathing,” Jack whispered, releasing him. Leo crumpled to the asphalt, clutching his chest.

Marcus panicked, seeing his only ally defeated so effortlessly. His grip on Chloe tightened, and he reached into his pocket, pulling out a gleaming pocket knife. He pressed the cold blade near her neck, his hands shaking uncontrollably. Chloe let out a sharp cry of fear, tears spilling over her cheeks as she looked at her father. Marcus's desperation was fueled by a dark secret: he had accumulated massive debts to dangerous local criminals, and he had planned to use Chloe's car and savings to flee the state, forcing her to accompany him as a shield.

Jack stopped, his eyes locking onto the knife. Every muscle in his body tensed, but he kept his voice remarkably calm, knowing that any sudden movement could push the unstable young man over the edge.

“Marcus, look at me,” Jack said, holding his hands up to show they were empty. “Your fight is with me now. You touch a single hair on her head, and there won't be a corner of this earth where you can hide from me.”

Marcus yelled back, his voice echoing off the concrete walls of the nearby park pavilion. He was trapped, and a cornered animal is always the most dangerous.
