The Day I Faked Blindness to Catch My Gold-Digger Fiancée Red-Handed
Previously: Harlan pretended to be blind to expose his fiancée's greed. But when she shoved his granddaughter and stole the deed, he snapped his eyes open — and the real trap began.
The Video That Changed Everything
I stared at the phone screen, at Ruby's tear-streaked face, and I felt the floor drop out from under me. Six years. Six years I'd kept that secret, buried so deep that even my own attorneys didn't know the full truth.
"You wouldn't," I said, my voice barely a whisper.

"Try me," Chloe-Mae said, her smile widening. "You think I came into this marriage without doing my homework? I know about the accident. I know about the settlement. I know that little Ruby isn't your granddaughter — she's your daughter."
Ruby looked up at me, confusion and fear warring in her eyes. "Papa?"
"Don't listen to her," I said, pulling her closer. But the damage was done. Chloe-Mae had thrown the grenade, and now I had to deal with the shrapnel.
"That's not all," Chloe-Mae continued, pacing now, enjoying her moment. "I've got copies of the bank statements, the medical records, the letters you wrote to your son before he died. All of it. And if you don't give me the deed — and the tiara, and the house — I'm going to make sure everyone knows what a fraud you are."
I felt the rage building in my chest, hot and sharp. But I'd spent a lifetime learning to control my temper. "You're not the only one with leverage," I said, holding up the cufflink camera. "This footage of you assaulting a child and attempting to steal a family heirloom — that's a felony, Chloe-Mae. You'd be looking at five years minimum."
She laughed again. "You think I care about that? I've got a lawyer on retainer who could get me off with a slap on the wrist. But you? You'll lose everything — your reputation, your family, your precious little girl."
Ruby started to cry again, and I felt her small hands clutch at my jacket. I had to think. I had to find a way out of this that didn't destroy her.
"Let's make a deal," I said, forcing my voice to stay steady. "You walk away now, with nothing. I keep the video. You keep your freedom. We never see each other again."
Chloe-Mae tilted her head, considering. "Not enough," she said. "I want the deed, the tiara, and a hundred thousand dollars in cash. Non-negotiable."
"You're insane."
"No," she said, stepping closer. "I'm just smarter than you. And I've got a backup plan."
She tapped her phone, and a moment later, the sound of footsteps echoed from the hallway. The vault door burst open, and two uniformed police officers stepped inside.
"Harlan Beaumont," one of them said, "you're under arrest for fraud, embezzlement, and conspiracy to commit perjury."
I stood there, frozen, as they snapped handcuffs onto my wrists. Ruby screamed. Chloe-Mae smiled.
"See," she said, "I told you I had a backup plan."
"Wait," I said, trying to keep my voice calm. "This is a mistake. She's the one who—"
"Save it for the judge," the officer said, and dragged me toward the door.
I looked back at Ruby, whose tears had turned to silent sobs. "Ruby, I need you to be brave," I said. "Call your uncle. Tell him to get my lawyers. Do you understand?"
She nodded, wiping her eyes with her torn sleeve. Chloe-Mae watched, her arms crossed, a triumphant gleam in her eyes.
"That's right," she said. "Tell everyone what a terrible liar your grandpa is."
"He's not a liar," Ruby said, her voice suddenly fierce. "He's the only one who ever told me the truth."
Chloe-Mae snorted. "We'll see about that."
As the officers led me up the stairs, I heard Ruby's small voice call out: "Papa, I believe you!"
And I knew, in that moment, that I'd do whatever it took to protect her — even if it meant losing everything else.
