The Dark Prescription
David tried to step between Lucas and his daughter, his hands shaking as he pointed toward the street.
"I want you off my property right now," David hissed. "You're playing cruel games with a disabled girl. I'll call the police!"
But Lucas didn't flinch. He wiped his hands on a small towel and looked directly at Sophia, ignoring her father's threats. "Sophia, a person with a severed spinal nerve cannot feel pain from a simple pressure point reflex," Lucas explained, his voice ringing with absolute certainty. "Your nerves are fully intact. Your muscles are healthy. But something is actively blocking your brain's signals from reaching your limbs."
Sophia’s heart hammered against her ribs. She looked at her father, expecting him to mock the stranger, but David had gone completely pale. The anger in his eyes had been replaced by a raw, naked panic. He looked like a man who had just seen a ghost.
"What are you saying?" Sophia asked, her voice trembling. "I take my medication every single day. My father imports it specially from Europe to help with my nerve pain."
Lucas reached into his pocket and pulled out a small medical journal entry. "I used to work as a lab technician at the clinic where your father had your private prescriptions filled. I was fired because I started asking questions. Sophia, those blue pills your father gives you every morning aren't nerve pain medication. They are a highly potent, experimental muscle relaxant and neuro-suppressant. In a healthy person, daily doses will gradually induce temporary, reversible paralysis."
Sophia felt the world spinning. She looked up at her father, expecting him to scream, to deny it, to throw this madman out. But David just stood there, his hands dropped to his sides, staring at the concrete driveway. The silence between them was deafening.
"Dad?" Sophia whispered, her voice cracking. "Tell me he’s lying. Please, Dad, tell me he's making this up."
David opened his mouth, but no sound came out. He looked older suddenly, the sharp charcoal suit looking like a shroud on a broken man.
