A Father Defended His Mother from His Daughter, But the Truth Was Far Worse
Previously: When Richard saw his daughter Lauren push his elderly mother off the porch, he reacted in fury. But he didn't know the dark secret his mother was hiding from them both.
A Web of Lies Unravels
Richard rushed down the porch steps to help Dorothy out of the bushes. The elderly woman was shaking, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. "Thank you, Richard," she whispered, her voice trembling. "I don't know what got into her. She just attacked me!" Richard turned a glare of pure ice toward Lauren, who was slowly pushing herself up from the grass, a dark bruise already forming on her cheek where her father had struck her.
"How could you do that to your own grandmother?" Richard roared, his voice shaking the quiet neighborhood. "Get off my property, Lauren. You are no longer welcome here!"
But instead of running away, Lauren stood her ground, wiping a tear from her eye. Her expression wasn't one of guilt, but of profound, agonizing heartbreak. "Ask her, Dad!" Lauren screamed back, her voice cracking. "Ask her about the bank accounts! Ask her why Mom’s medical trust fund is completely empty!"
Richard froze. His late wife, Sarah, had passed away three years prior after a long battle with illness. Before her passing, she had set up a substantial trust fund designated solely for Lauren’s college education and future. Richard had trusted Dorothy to manage the estate paperwork during his time of deepest grief. He looked down at his mother, expecting her to voice indignant denial. Instead, Dorothy avoided his gaze, her face turning a ghostly shade of white as she clutched her purple blouse.
"What is she talking about, Mother?" Richard asked, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper.
Lauren stepped forward, pulling a crumpled stack of financial documents from her pocket and throwing them at her father's feet. "She’s been draining it for two years, Dad. She spent it all on her secret gambling debts. I found the statements today, and when I confronted her, she tried to burn them. That's why I shoved her—to stop her from destroying the evidence!"
