Heather stammered, her hands shaking as she tried to tighten the knot on her bathrobe. "Jacob, it's not what it looks like. We... we thought she was asleep in her room. The door must have latched behind her when she let the dog out."

Jacob looked at his wife, the woman he had loved for seven years, and felt an overwhelming wave of disgust. "The dog is asleep in his crate, Heather! You locked her out so you could bring him into our bed!" Jacob's voice shook the walls, but his grip on Lily remained incredibly gentle, cradling her head against his chest as she continued to weep.

Travis stepped forward, trying to project authority despite his lack of a shirt. "Hey man, calm down. Let's not do this in front of the kid. It was an accident."

"Don't you dare speak to me, Travis," Jacob hissed, his eyes locking onto the other man. "You stepped into my house, took my wife, and neglected my daughter. If you don't get out of my sight in the next ten seconds, the police won't be the only ones I'm calling."

Heather began to cry, reaching out toward Lily, but Jacob stepped back, shielding the little girl. The betrayal cut deep, but his priority was his daughter's survival. He carried Lily into the kitchen, wrapped her in a warm blanket, and turned on the stove to heat up some milk. He refused to look at Heather as she pleaded for forgiveness in the background. Travis, realizing the gravity of the situation, quietly slipped out the back door into the freezing night.

As Jacob sat on the kitchen floor, rocking his shivering daughter, he looked around the home he had spent years building. In a single night, his marriage was dead, and his trust was shattered. But as he looked at Lily's pale face, he knew he had to be strong. He grabbed his phone and dialed his mother, asking her to prepare a warm bed. He was leaving, and he was taking his daughter with him.
