Previously: When Brandon returns home early during a violent storm, he finds his terrified six-year-old son locked out in the cold—while his wife is upstairs with someone else.

A Web of Lies Unravels

The silence in the bedroom was suffocating, broken only by the distant roll of thunder outside. Nicole scrambled to pull the duvet over her shoulders, her eyes wide with terror as she looked at her dripping-wet husband. The man beside her, a wealthy local real estate developer named Marcus whom Brandon had met at neighborhood events, tried to slide out of the bed to put his clothes on. Brandon pointed a warning finger at him, his knuckles white.

"Don't you dare move," Brandon growled, his voice dangerously low. "You stay right there."

Nicole began to stammer, her voice trembling as she tried to weave a lie. "Brandon, please, it's not what it looks like! Dylan... Dylan was supposed to be asleep. I didn't lock him out on purpose! He must have slipped out!"

But Brandon knew his son. Dylan was terrified of the dark and hated the thunder. He would never voluntarily go outside in a storm. The truth was far more sinister, and Brandon could see it written all over Nicole's guilty face. She had locked the back door to keep Dylan from wandering upstairs and interrupting her secret rendezvous. When Dylan had knocked, she had ignored him, letting her own child freeze so she could protect her affair.

"You chose him over your own flesh and blood," Brandon said, the realization cutting deeper than any physical blade ever could. "You let our six-year-old scream in the freezing rain just so you wouldn't get caught."

Marcus tried to interject, offering to leave quietly, but Brandon wasn't listening. He grabbed his phone and dialed 911, reporting child endangerment. Nicole gasped, begging him to stop, realizing that her comfortable life and her reputation were about to crumble. Brandon turned his back on them, walking back downstairs to his shivering, traumatized son. He knew that his marriage was over, but his primary focus now was protecting Dylan from the woman who was supposed to love him most.
