Before the security guards could grab Ethan, the young boy did something unexpected. He reached slowly into his pocket and pulled out a small, charred object. It was a silver locket, blackened by soot but unmistakable. Thomas froze. That locket belonged to his late wife, Evelyn. It was supposed to have perished with her in the horrific house fire that had claimed her life three years ago—the very fire that had traumatized Clara into silence.

"Where did you get that?"

Thomas whispered, his anger instantly vanishing, replaced by a chilling dread. He stepped down from the stage, his eyes locked on the scorched piece of jewelry.

Ethan looked directly at Clara, his expression softening.

"I was there that night, sir. I'm the one who pulled Clara out of the window before the roof collapsed. But she didn't lose her voice because of the fire. She lost it because of what she saw before the flames started."

A collective gasp rippled through the crowd. Clara clung tightly to her father's leg, her tiny body trembling violently as she stared at the boy. Thomas's heart hammered against his ribs.

"What did she see?"

he demanded, his voice barely a whisper.

Ethan slowly turned his head, his gaze landing squarely on Richard, Thomas’s trusted business partner and lifelong friend, who was standing in the front row. Richard's face drained of color.

"She saw him,"

Ethan said, pointing a finger at Richard.

"She saw him lock the bedroom door from the outside after setting the fire. He wanted your wife gone, Thomas, and he wanted your company's secret files."
