Previously: When Ryan found his six-year-old son Ethan shivering outside in a freezing storm, he thought it was a terrible accident. But the truth waiting upstairs was far worse.

The Ultimate Betrayal

The silence in the bedroom was suffocating, broken only by Ethan's soft, trembling whimpers. The man scrambling out of the bed was none other than Trevor, Ryan's own business partner and a man he had trusted as a brother. Ryan felt a sickening wave of betrayal wash over him, but his immediate priority was his son.

"Get out of my house," Ryan whispered, his voice dangerously low. "Both of you. Now."

Heather finally found her voice, wrapping a sheet around herself as she stood up. "Ryan, please! It's not what it looks like! The door... the lock must have jammed. I didn't know Ethan was out there!" she pleaded, her voice ringing with desperate falsehoods.

But Ryan wasn't listening to her lies. He carried Ethan downstairs, wrapping him in dry blankets and heating up some milk. He refused to let his son see the monster his mother had become. Within an hour, Trevor had fled, and Heather was packing a bag, realizing that there was no explaining her way out of this. She had intentionally locked the patio door so that Ethan wouldn't wander upstairs and interrupt her secret rendezvous.

Before she walked out the door, Heather looked at Ryan with cold, spiteful eyes. "You think you're the perfect father?" she spat. "Go ahead and take him. But you should know... Trevor has been around a lot longer than you think. Are you even sure Ethan is yours?"

Those parting words felt like a physical blow to Ryan's chest. He looked at his sleeping son on the couch, the boy who shared his smile, his eyes, his entire heart. Could the betrayal run even deeper than he ever imagined?
