The Father Everyone Thought Was Dead Returned to Catch a Killer
Previously: When Eliza Harrow is pushed down the stairs, no one expects her dead father to appear — and reveal the family's darkest secret. A shocking twist awaits.
The Truth Unveiled
They drove back to the Ashcroft mansion in silence. Nathan's hands were tight on the wheel, his knuckles white. Eliza sat in the passenger seat, her heart pounding so loud she was sure he could hear it.
"You know this is crazy," he said as they pulled into the driveway. "Breaking into my own house."

"We're not breaking in," she said. "We're just getting something that belongs to me."
"Your father's files," he said. "They're in my mother's office."
"Yes," she said. "And you're going to help me get them."
They entered through the back door, the house dark and quiet. Nathan led her up the back stairs to the second floor, where Vivian's office was locked.
"Do you have a key?" Eliza asked.
"I have a credit card," he said, sliding it into the lock. The door clicked open.
Inside, the office was exactly as she remembered it — all dark wood and leather, the smell of old money. Vivian's desk was neat, a single lamp casting a pool of light.
"The files," Eliza said. "Where does she keep them?"
"There's a safe behind the painting," Nathan said, pointing to a landscape on the wall.
Eliza moved to it, pulling the painting aside. The safe was old-fashioned, with a combination dial. "Do you know the code?"
Nathan shook his head. "I never knew it."
"Think," she said. "What would she use?"
"Maybe my birthday?" he suggested. "Or Daniel's?"
She tried his birthday, then Daniel's, then Vivian's. None of them worked.
"What about your father?" she asked. "His birthday?"
"I don't know when he was born," Nathan said. "He died when I was ten."
"No, he didn't," Eliza said. "He ran away. But maybe she still uses his birthday."
Nathan thought for a moment. "January 15th."
She dialed it in. The safe clicked open.
Inside were stacks of papers, bank records, and a USB drive. "This is it," she said, grabbing the drive. "This is everything."
"Let's go," Nathan said. "Before she comes back."
But as they turned to leave, the door swung open, and Vivian stood there, her face a mask of fury.
"What do you think you're doing?" she demanded.
"Getting the truth," Eliza said, holding up the drive.
Vivian's eyes narrowed. "You have no idea what you're doing."
"I know exactly what I'm doing," Eliza said. "I'm exposing you."
"You're destroying this family," Vivian said. "Everything we've built—"
"Built on lies," Eliza said. "And murder."
Vivian laughed, but there was no humor in it. "You think you're so innocent? You married into this family for the money. You knew what you were doing."
"I married Nathan because I loved him," Eliza said.
"Love," Vivian spat. "Love is for fools. You're a fool, Eliza. Just like your mother."
Eliza felt a chill run down her spine. "What did you say?"
"Your mother," Vivian said. "She was a fool too. She thought she could expose us. Look what happened to her."
"You killed her," Eliza whispered.
"I had her killed," Vivian said. "There's a difference."
"Why?" Eliza asked. "Why did you do it?"
"Because she was going to ruin us," Vivian said. "She found out about the money, and she was going to go to the press. I couldn't let that happen."
"So you had her murdered," Eliza said. "And you tried to have me killed too."
"I didn't push you," Vivian said. "But I'm not sorry it happened."
"It was Daniel," Eliza said. "He pushed me."
Vivian's face flickered. "Daniel wouldn't do that."
"He did," Eliza said. "I saw his face when I fell."
"You're lying," Vivian said.
"I'm not," Eliza said. "And now I have proof."
She held up the USB drive. "This is going to the FBI."
Vivian lunged for her, but Nathan stepped in between them. "No, Mother. This is over."
"Get out of my way," Vivian hissed.
"I can't," Nathan said. "I can't let you hurt her anymore."
"You're choosing her over your own family?" Vivian asked.
"Yes," Nathan said. "Because she's right. What we did was wrong."
"We?" Vivian said. "You had nothing to do with it."
"I'm part of this family," Nathan said. "That means I'm part of the guilt."
"Don't you dare," Vivian said. "Don't you dare turn against me."
"I'm not turning against you," Nathan said. "I'm turning toward the truth."
Vivian stared at him, her face crumbling. "You're going to regret this."
"Maybe," Nathan said. "But at least I'll be able to live with myself."
He took Eliza's hand and pulled her toward the door.
