Previously: At his daughter's rainy funeral, a grieving father is stopped by a muddy 11-year-old boy who claims the girl is still alive. The truth behind her death will shatter the family forever.

The Secret in the Casket

The funeral directors hesitated, but one look at Arthur's thunderous expression told them they had no choice. With trembling hands, they brought over the tools to unscrew the heavy lid of the white casket. Evelyn stepped forward, her voice high and frantic.

"Arthur, this is madness! You're letting a delusional, dirty street child desecrate our daughter's memory! Please, let her rest in peace!"

But Arthur ignored her, his eyes locked on the wooden lid as it was slowly lifted. A heavy silence fell over the cemetery, broken only by the sound of the pouring rain.

Arthur stepped forward and looked inside. Lily lay there, dressed in a beautiful white silk dress, her face pale and still. Arthur's heart sank. He reached out with a shaking hand, touching her cheek. It was cold, but not ice-cold.

Suddenly, a voice spoke up from the crowd. Dr. Charles, a close family friend and pediatrician, pushed his way to the front.

"Let me look at her, Arthur,"

he urged softly. Dr. Charles knelt by the casket, pressing two fingers firmly against Lily's neck. For ten agonizing seconds, nobody breathed. Then, the doctor's eyes widened in sheer disbelief.

"She has a pulse! It's incredibly faint, almost imperceptible, but she is breathing!"

The crowd erupted into chaotic whispers. Arthur fell to his knees, tears streaming down his face, clutching his daughter's limp hand.

Evelyn stepped backward, her eyes darting around like a trapped animal. Leo, still held by the guards, yelled out,

"The pendant! She keeps the drug in her gold pendant! I saw her pour it into Lily's warm milk the night she fell asleep!"

Arthur stood up, his grief instantly transforming into a cold, terrifying rage. He turned to face his wife, his gaze dropping to the gold locket she was desperately trying to hide in her coat pocket.
