Rusty's sharp claws ripped through the delicate white satin lining of the casket. Evelyn lunged forward, trying to grab the dog's collar to pull him away, but David stepped in her path, blocking her completely.

The Secret Under the Satin

"Let him go, Evelyn," David said, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "Rusty has never acted like this. He’s trying to show us something."

With one final, powerful tug, Rusty’s teeth clamped onto a thick, wax-sealed manila envelope that had been stuffed deep into the casket's hidden padding. The dog gently jumped out of the casket and dropped the envelope right at David’s feet, sitting protectively over it while continuing to growl softly at Evelyn.

Evelyn’s hands shook violently. "That is private family business! Give that to me, David! It belongs to his estate, and as his wife, I am the sole executor!"

Clara stepped forward, her eyes wide with suspicion. "If it was private estate business, Evelyn, why was it hidden inside his burial casket? Arthur was healthy a month ago. His sudden heart attack never made sense to me."

David picked up the envelope. Written on the front in his father’s unmistakable, shaky handwriting were the words: To my son, David. Do not let her bury the truth.

"Don't you dare open that!" Evelyn screamed, reaching desperately for her purse. "I will call the police for theft!"

"Go ahead, call them," David replied calmly, tearing open the wax seal. Inside was a handwritten confession from Arthur, dated just three days before his death. The letter detailed how Arthur had grown increasingly weak and suspected Evelyn was slowly poisoning his daily herbal tea. He had hidden this letter in his suit lining before he passed, knowing Rusty would guide David to it. Along with the letter was a small flash drive containing hidden camera footage from Arthur’s study.
