Previously: When Captain Sarah Vance defended a traumatized woman from a violent attacker in her hospital room, she thought she was just doing her job. She never expected the dark family secrets that would soon unravel.

A Trap for the Monster

Sarah knew she had to act quickly before Julian realized his assassin had failed. She whispered a plan to Chloe, who, despite her sheer terror, nodded bravely. Together with her SWAT team, Sarah set a trap. They leaked a false report to the local media stating that Chloe had tragically succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.

Less than two hours later, the door to Room 402 slowly creaked open. Julian walked in, wearing a perfectly tailored black suit, his face contorted into a mask of theatrical grief. He approached the bed, where a sheet was pulled completely over a still body. He let out a heavy, fake sigh, reaching down to touch the sheet.

"It's finally over," Julian muttered, a dark, victorious smile slipping across his face.

"Not even close, Julian," a voice cold as ice echoed from the shadows. Sarah stepped out from behind the curtain, her service weapon drawn and aimed directly at his chest. At the same moment, the figure under the sheet sat up—it was a decoy officer. Chloe herself stepped out from the adjoining bathroom, flanked by two armed deputies.

Julian’s face drained of color as he realized he had walked straight into a trap. He tried to stammer an excuse, but the evidence on Mark's phone, combined with Julian's own recorded confession from the wiretap Sarah had initiated, was absolute. The deputies stepped forward, slamming Julian against the wall and clicking the handcuffs around his wrists.

As they dragged her husband away, Chloe sank into a chair, a heavy weight finally lifting from her chest. Sarah walked over, wrapping her arms around her in a tight, protective embrace. Justice had been served, but the scars would take time to heal. In a world where trust can be a deadly weapon, the fiercest shield is the one held by those who fight for the truth.
