Previously: Clara thought her Christmas Eve flight would be a quiet escape, but seeing her pilot husband lock eyes with the flight attendant revealed a devastating secret she wasn't supposed to find.

A Different Destination

Mark tried to maintain his composure, stepping forward with a forced chuckle. "Clara? What are you doing up? You should be resting."

"Save it, Mark," Clara said, looking at him with cold detachment. "I know everything. I know about the Belize account. I know about the beach house. And I know about the two of you."

Mark’s eyes widened, his professional demeanor completely shattering. "Clara, please, let's talk about this in private. We can explain—"

"There is nothing to explain," Clara interrupted. "You thought you were heading west to start your new life. But as the majority shareholder of this airline, I made a few phone calls before we boarded."

Sarah gasped, clutching the edge of the galley counter. Mark stepped closer, his voice dropping to a desperate hiss. "You can't do anything up here, Clara. I'm flying this plane. We are landing where I say we land."

Clara smiled, a genuine, victorious smile that reached her eyes for the first time all evening.

"Actually, Mark, you aren't the only pilot on this aircraft," Clara whispered. "Your co-pilot is fully aware of the situation. And if you look at your navigation system, you’ll realize we aren't heading west anymore. I had our flight plan rerouted. We are landing in Chicago in twenty minutes."

Mark stumbled back, his face pale. "Chicago? Why?"

"Because that is where the federal authorities are waiting for you both," Clara said softly. "Embezzlement and grand theft are federal offenses, especially when crossing state lines."

The realization hit them like a physical blow. Sarah began to weep silently, while Mark stared at his wife in utter defeat. Clara turned on her heel and walked back to her first-class seat, enjoying the quiet hum of the cabin for the remainder of the flight. When the plane touched down, justice was served swiftly. Clara proved that no matter how high a betrayer flies, the truth will always bring them crashing back to earth.
