Previously: Cousin Malcolm thought a fake will would steal my son's inheritance. But Ethan had his mother's music box, a hidden key, and a truth that shattered everything.

The Name That Made the World Stop

The officers had just closed the door behind Malcolm when I looked down at the transcript again. The line was small, almost hidden in the margin: "Make sure the boy's aunt doesn't get wind of this."

Aunt. My sister-in-law, Clara. She had always been cold toward Ethan, but I'd never thought she'd go this far.

I shoved the paper into my pocket and turned to Ethan. "Stay here," I said, my voice steady. "I need to make a phone call."

He nodded, still clutching the music box. I walked into the study, shutting the door behind me, and dialed Clara's number. She answered on the second ring, her voice sweet as honey.

"Rafael! I heard there was some commotion. Is everything alright?"

"Cut the act," I snapped. "I have the transcript. I know you were behind the forged report."

The silence on the other end was deafening. Then, a low laugh—cold, calculated. "You always were too clever for your own good, Rafael. But you can't prove anything."

"I have your voice on tape," I said. "And I have the DNA report. The real one."

"That doesn't matter now," Clara said, her voice turning sharp. "The will is still valid. And without the DNA report, the court will side with Malcolm—or me."

I felt a chill run down my spine. "What do you want, Clara?"

"I want what I've always wanted," she said. "Control. And I'll get it, one way or another."

She hung up, leaving me staring at the phone. I had to think. I had to act fast.

I returned to the drawing room, where Ethan was still sitting on the floor, his eyes wide. "Dad? Is everything okay?"

"Not yet," I said, kneeling beside him. "But I'm going to fix it. I promise."

He nodded, trusting me completely. That trust was a weight I couldn't afford to fail.

I spent the next hour on the phone with my lawyers, my forensic team, anyone who could help. We needed to prove that the will itself was forged—that Clara had manipulated the entire process.

But every step forward, we hit a wall. Clara had covered her tracks well. Too well.

It wasn't until late that night, when I was going through Ethan's mother's belongings, that I found the key. A small, tarnished key hidden in the lining of her favorite coat. It didn't fit any lock in the house.

But it fit the music box.

Ethan had been right to hold onto it. Inside the music box, under the velvet lining, was a USB drive. And on that drive—a recording of Clara and Malcolm, plotting everything.

I played it, my hands shaking. Clara's voice, clear as day: "Once the boy is out of the picture, the Castellano empire is ours."

Malcolm's voice, laughing: "And with the forged will, we'll have it all."

I sat in the dark, the recording echoing in my ears. This wasn't just about money. This was about destroying my family.

And I was going to make them pay.

The Trap That Snapped Shut

I called the police first thing in the morning. They arrived with a warrant, and I handed them the USB drive. Clara was arrested at her home, still in her silk robe, screaming about her rights.

But the damage was done. The story hit the news, and suddenly, the Castellano name was splashed across every headline. Not as a family torn apart by tragedy, but as a dynasty ripped open by greed.

Ethan watched from the window as Clara was led away in handcuffs. He didn't cry. He just stood there, holding the music box, his tiny shoulders straight.

"Dad," he said quietly, "are we going to be okay?"

I knelt beside him, pulling him into a hug. "Yes, Ethan. We're going to be more than okay."

But even as I said it, I knew the battle wasn't over. There were still legal challenges, appeals, and a board of directors who wanted my head. The empire I'd built was on the line.

And somewhere, in the shadows, someone else was waiting to strike.

I had to stay one step ahead. For Ethan. For his mother's memory. For everything we'd lost.

That night, as I tucked him into bed, he looked up at me with those innocent eyes. "Dad, did I do good?"

"You did more than good," I said, my voice thick. "You saved our family."

He smiled, a small, fragile thing, and closed his eyes. I sat beside him until he fell asleep, then I went to the study to plan my next move.

The game wasn't over. But I was ready to play.
