Previously: When the kingdom’s greatest warrior failed to draw the legendary sword from the stone, a forgotten orphan stepped forward—and changed the course of history forever.

The True King's Mercy

The stone guardian let out another deafening roar, its massive rocky fists ready to crush Borin and his men. The soldiers panicked, fleeing in terror as the ancient protector stepped forward. Borin, however, stood his ground, his obsession with power blinding him to the danger. He charged at the giant, only to be swatted away like a leaf in the wind. He crashed against the canyon wall, his heavy armor dented and his weapon shattered.

As the guardian raised its massive fist to deliver a fatal blow to the defeated warrior, Arthur did something no one expected. He stepped between the stone giant and his fallen enemy, raising his hand to stop the beast.

"Stop!" Arthur commanded, his voice filled with a strange, sovereign authority. "He is defeated. There has been enough blood spilled today."

The guardian paused, its glowing eyes staring down at the young boy. For a tense moment, the entire gorge held its breath. Then, slowly, the giant bowed its head and crumbled back into the canyon walls, returning to its eternal sleep. Arthur turned to Borin, who was trembling in the dirt, staring up at the boy he had mocked just minutes before.

Arthur did not strike him down. Instead, he sheathed the legendary blade and extended his hand to help the fallen champion rise. Borin looked at the outstretched hand, his eyes filling with tears of shame and realization. He finally understood that true strength did not come from iron armor or brutal force, but from a noble heart.

Borin slowly took Arthur's hand, rising to his feet, and bowed deeply before the new king. The remaining soldiers, witnessing this act of profound mercy, fell to their knees in genuine loyalty. Arthur had not just claimed a sword; he had won the hearts of his people. In a world where power is often taken by force, the truest rulers are those who lead with mercy and protect the defenseless.
