Previously: When ten-year-old Leo crashed a high-society gala to find the mother who vanished years ago, her new husband tried to throw him out—until a single touch sparked a long-lost memory.

A Web of Deceit

The touch sent a physical shockwave through Clara’s body. Visions—blurry but intense—flashed behind her eyes: a tiny hand grasping her finger, the smell of baby powder, and a sweet voice singing a lullaby she hadn't heard in five years. Tears welled in her eyes as she stared at the boy. "Leo?" she whispered, the name feeling incredibly natural on her tongue.

Victor’s face drained of color. He immediately stepped between them, his protective demeanor twisting into something desperate and aggressive. He signaled the security guards standing near the golden arched doorways.

"Get this kid out of here! He’s a street hustler trying to scam my wife!" Victor shouted, his voice echoing off the high ceilings.

But Leo pulled a worn silver locket from beneath his dirty green hoodie. He held it high for the entire ballroom to see. "I’m not a scammer! This is my mother! You took her from me!" the boy yelled, his voice cracking with emotion.

Clara gasped. Even from a distance, she recognized the silver locket. It was the exact shape of a birthmark she had on her shoulder—a unique crescent moon. She reached out, her voice trembling. "Victor, let him speak. What is that locket?"

Instead of answering, Victor snatched the locket from Leo's hand and threw it across the marble floor. It skittered under a table. "Don't listen to him, Clara! You are fragile. Your mind is playing tricks on you. Guards, drag him out now!"

Two burly security guards grabbed Leo by his shoulders. The boy struggled, crying out in pain. "Mom, please! He lied to you! He was the doctor who treated you after the crash! He hid you from my dad and me!"

The words struck Clara like a physical blow. The doctor? She looked at Victor, whose breathing was shallow, his eyes darting around the room in absolute panic. The guests began to murmur, the illusion of the perfect high-society couple shattering in an instant. Clara realized with horrifying clarity that the man she trusted had built her entire life on a monstrous lie.
