Previously: A quiet foster girl hides a locket that plays her mother's lullaby. When a billionaire couple arrives for a welfare check, they discover the truth—and it changes everything forever.

The Letter That Changed Everything

Victoria sat in the library, the letter trembling in her hands. Maya sat beside her, the locket open on her lap. Julian stood by the window, his back to them, but his shoulders were tense.

"Dear Julian and Victoria," Victoria read aloud, her voice breaking. "If you're reading this, then Maya has found her way to you. I know you think you lost your baby in the fire, but she survived. A nurse named Helen took her, because she was afraid the hospital would be blamed. I was Helen's sister. I raised Maya as my own, but I'm sick, and I can't take care of her anymore."

Maya's eyes widened. "My mother... wasn't my real mother?"

Victoria shook her head, tears streaming. "She was your aunt. She loved you so much."

The letter continued: "I placed Maya with the foster system, but I kept her locket close, hoping that one day she would find you. I'm sorry for the years you lost. I'm sorry for the fear. But I know you'll love her like I did."

Julian turned, his eyes wet. "She knew. She knew all along."

Maya looked at the locket, then at Victoria. "Can you play the lullaby?" she asked softly.

Victoria pressed the clasp. The tiny music box began to play a soft, familiar melody. Victoria gasped. "That's the song I used to hum to you in the hospital."

Maya smiled for the first time—a small, tentative smile. "She used to sing it to me every night."

The court hearing was swift. With the letter, the hospital records, and the surveillance footage, Rita's custody was terminated. She was sentenced to five years for child endangerment and fraud.

But the real victory happened at the mansion, a week later. Maya officially became Maya Rosewood, adopted by Julian and Victoria. She had a new room, painted soft pink, with a canopy bed and a bookshelf full of fairy tales. She had a dog named Biscuit and a garden full of roses.

And she had parents who never let her out of their sight.

On her first night in her new room, Victoria tucked her in and kissed her forehead. "We have so many years to make up for," she whispered.

Maya clutched the locket. "Will you sing the lullaby?"

Victoria smiled, her voice soft and true. As she sang, Maya's eyes grew heavy, and she drifted off to sleep, knowing she was finally home.

Julian stood in the doorway, watching them. He pressed his own locket to his chest, the ruby crest warm against his palm. "We found her," he said to himself. "After all these years, we found her."

The next morning, Maya ran down the stairs, her braids bouncing. She had a new yellow dress, not patched, and new shoes that squeaked when she walked. "Can we plant sunflowers?" she asked.

Victoria laughed. "Anything you want."

Julian scooped Maya into his arms. "Anything," he echoed.

As they walked into the garden, Maya looked back at the mansion. It was big and beautiful, but it wasn't the house that made it home. It was the people who held her close, who sang her mother's lullaby, who promised to never let her go.

And in that moment, Maya knew: she wasn't a burden. She was a miracle.
