From Rich Brat To Secret Agent: How My Ex's Humiliation Revealed His True Power
Previously: Victoria thought she'd won when she left Jack for dead. Ten years later, she flaunted her wealth, only to discover he wasn't the loser she remembered, but a man with a power she couldn't comprehend.
A Power Unveiled
Victoria, emboldened by Jack’s stoic silence, closed the distance between them. Her manicured burgundy nails, a testament to a life of leisure, flicked dismissively at his lapel. It was a gesture of pure disdain, a physical manifestation of the chasm she believed separated them.
"Don't bother going inside, darling," she purred, her voice laced with a patronizing smirk. "Real power doesn't mingle with charity cases."
She expected him to flinch, to show some sign of the old hurt. Instead, Jack calmly brushed her finger away. The movement was deliberate, a subtle assertion of his personal space that spoke volumes more than any shouted word. Their flashing blue-and-red grille strobes painted the wet asphalt in strobes of urgent light as they aggressively flanked the humble taxi. Heavy tactical doors slammed open with concussive thuds, the sound echoing unnervingly in the quiet street. Men in tactical gear spilled out, their movements sharp and precise.
"Perimeter secure! Director Mercer, the situation room is live!" a voice boomed with thunderous urgency.
Victoria froze, her sneer replaced by a mask of paralyzed horror. Her umbrella, suddenly heavy, slipped an inch in her trembling glove. Her eyes, wide with disbelieving shock, darted from the heavily armed agents to Jack, who remained remarkably composed amidst the sudden chaos. The man she had dismissed as a loser, a man who “crawled out of cabs,” was being addressed as “Director Mercer.” The revelation struck her with the force of a physical blow.
