Previously: At a glittering gala, a barefoot orphan is shoved toward the service exit. But when he lifts his half-locket, the billionaire couple drops to their knees — and the truth shatters everything.

The Truth That Brought the Twins Home

Sebastian answered on the first ring. "Where are you?" he demanded, his voice tight with panic.

"The Foley mansion," I said, breathless. "I have a letter. It's from your father. He paid Lady Vane to take one of your twins."

There was a long silence. Then Sebastian's voice came through, low and dangerous. "Don't move. I'm coming."

He arrived within minutes, flanked by security. Madeline was behind him, her face pale as death. Lucas and Liam were in the car, the twins clinging to each other like they'd been separated for a lifetime.

I handed him the letter. He read it in silence, his jaw tightening with each line. When he finished, he folded it carefully and put it in his pocket.

"My father," he said, his voice barely a whisper. "He did this."

"He wanted only one heir," I said. "He paid Lady Vane to take the second boy. She left him on a church doorstep. I found him."

Madeline let out a choked sob. "But she took the wrong one," she said. "She was supposed to take…"

"Lucas," I finished. "She was supposed to take Lucas. But she took Liam instead."

Sebastian looked at me, his eyes searching mine. "And you raised him. You loved him."

"He's my son," I said, and the words came out fierce, protective. "He's my son, and I raised him right."

Sebastian nodded slowly. "I don't know how to thank you," he said. "For giving him a life. For loving him."

I shook my head. "Don't thank me. Just… don't let him go."

He looked at me for a long moment. Then he said, "He won't. Neither will you."

We drove back to the Cole estate — a sprawling mansion with a gate that opened like arms welcoming us home. The twins ran ahead, their laughter echoing through the marble halls. Sebastian and Madeline followed, their hands intertwined.

I walked behind them, my borrowed uniform feeling less like a costume and more like a shield. I had come to this gala as a caterer, a nobody. I was leaving as the woman who had raised a stolen prince.

In the great hall, Lady Vane was being arrested by the police, her tiara gone, her face a mask of defeat. She didn't look at me. She didn't look at anyone.

Sebastian pulled me aside. "There's something else," he said. "The letter mentions a fortune — a trust set up for the second twin. It was never touched. It's been growing for eight years."

"Liam doesn't need that," I said. "He just needs a family."

"He has one," Sebastian said. "And so do you."

I looked at him, confused. "What do you mean?"

"You're his mother," he said. "You raised him. You loved him. That makes you family."

Madeline came up beside him and took my hand. "We want you to stay," she said. "Be part of his life. Be part of ours."

Tears burned in my eyes. I had spent eight years alone, raising a child who wasn't mine by blood but was mine in every way that mattered. And now, the universe had given me a gift I never expected: a family.

I nodded, unable to speak. Madeline pulled me into a hug, and I felt her warmth, her acceptance.

Later that night, I sat on the edge of Liam's bed as he drifted off to sleep, his hand wrapped around the half-medallion that had started it all. "Mom," he murmured, "are we going to stay here?"

"Yes, baby," I said, brushing his curls back. "We're going to stay."

"And Lucas?"

"Lucas is your brother," I said. "He'll always be here."

He smiled, a sleepy, contented smile. "Good," he said. "Because I always wanted a brother."

I kissed his forehead and stood up, looking out the window at the moonlit gardens. In the distance, I could see Sebastian and Madeline walking with Lucas, their laughter floating on the breeze.

Somewhere in the house, a clock chimed midnight. A new day was beginning.

And for the first time in eight years, I knew that my son was safe — and that I had found a home where he would never have to worry about being left behind again.
