Previously: When a terrified little girl in a lavender hoodie clung to Marcus's leg in a grocery store, the burly biker knew he couldn't walk away.

A Line in the Sand

The atmosphere in the grocery store grew suffocatingly tense as more onlookers gathered at the ends of the aisle, whispers spreading like wildfire. Greg was breathing heavily, trying to use his aggressive posture to intimidate the biker, but Marcus remained as solid as a mountain. "She's my daughter!" Greg lied loudly, looking around at the spectators for support. "This guy in the leather vest is trying to take her! Someone call security!" But Marcus didn't flinch. He slowly looked down at Lily, keeping his body positioned as an impenetrable shield between her and the angry man.

"Sweetheart," Marcus said, his deep voice remarkably gentle as he addressed the trembling girl. "Is this man your father?" Lily shook her head violently, tears spilling over her flushed cheeks as she gripped his leather vest tighter.

"No! He's my mom's ex-boyfriend, Greg! He broke into our house and started hurting Mom. She told me to run and find help!"
her voice rang out, clear and devastating. A collective gasp rippled through the gathered crowd of shoppers, and several people immediately pulled out their phones to call the police. Greg's face instantly drained of color, his aggressive bravado faltering for a split second before turning into pure panic.

Realizing his cover was completely blown, Greg lunged forward, reaching past Marcus to grab Lily's lavender hoodie. But Marcus's reflexes were lightning fast. His massive, tattooed hand shot out, catching Greg's wrist in a grip of absolute steel. "I suggest you take your hands off before you find out exactly how I handle cowards," Marcus warned, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous growl. Greg writhed, trying to pull away, but he was completely immobilized by the biker's strength. He glared at Marcus, realizing that he had run into the worst possible roadblock.
