As the cheers of the crowd echoed off the concrete walls, Garrett’s mocking smile vanished. He was used to terrorizing people, not being stared down by a woman half his size. He stepped closer, his shadow completely swallowing Paige.

"You think this is a joke, girl?" Garrett growled, his voice a low rumble. "I run this yard. I can make sure you never walk out of here."

Paige maintained her icy composure. She knew the risks of entering Blackwood Penitentiary, but she had a mission. Her father, Marcus Vance, had been the warden of this very facility before he was betrayed and murdered.
