Previously: When a towering inmate tries to humiliate Clara in the prison yard, she whispers a shocking secret that turns her fiercest enemy into her only ally against a corrupt warden.

Warden Marcus stepped onto the concrete, his polished boots clicking loudly. "Is there a problem here, Silas?" Marcus called out, his eyes gleaming. "I thought you were going to show the new girl how we handle rules in Blackwood."

The Tables Turn

"The girl stays under my protection, Warden," Silas rumbled, his voice echoing across the yard. "And the deal is off."

Marcus’s face darkened with rage. "You just made the biggest mistake of your life, Silas. Guards, take them both to solitary!"

But before the guards could take a step, the sound of sirens wailed from outside the prison walls. The heavy main gates of the facility were suddenly breached by black SUVs. FBI agents poured into the yard, weapons drawn, led by an agent holding a federal warrant. My lawyer had successfully delivered the evidence of Marcus’s smuggling ring and his attempted hit on me just an hour prior.

Marcus was handcuffed on his own concrete yard, his face pale with shock as his empire crumbled. Silas turned to me, a look of profound respect in his eyes. He had chosen the right side just in time.

Three weeks later, I walked out of Blackwood a free woman, my record fully expunged. Silas, for his cooperation in testifying against Marcus, had his sentence reduced to time served. Standing up to a giant is terrifying, but sometimes, the greatest weapon isn't brute force—it is the truth.
