The girl pointed toward a dark SUV parked across the street, its engine idling quietly. "She's waiting for me in the car," she whispered. David’s legs felt like lead, but a desperate force pushed him forward. He followed the young girl as she ran to the passenger side and pulled the door open. "Mommy! This man has your picture!" she cried out happily.

The woman in the driver’s seat turned her head. As the warm light of the dashboard illuminated her face, David’s world shattered all over again. It was Sarah. She looked slightly older, with faint lines of exhaustion around her eyes, but it was undeniably her. She gasped, her eyes widening in absolute terror as her gaze met David's.

"David?" she whispered, her voice trembling. "How... how did you find us?"

"Sarah? You're alive?" David sobbed, slamming his hands against the car door. "They told me you died in the fire! Why did you leave me? Who is this little girl?"

Instead of embracing him, Sarah locked the doors, tears streaming down her face. "David, please, you have to walk away," she pleaded through the cracked window. "If they see you with us, they will kill you. The fire wasn't an accident. I had to fake my death to protect you."

Before David could process her words, a black sedan tore around the corner, screeching to a halt right behind Sarah’s SUV. Two men in dark suits stepped out, their faces cold and menacing. One of them reached inside his coat, his eyes locked onto David. Sarah screamed, "Run, David! Don't let them get Ella!" The web of lies that had kept them apart for five years was collapsing in a matter of seconds, and David realized he was standing in the crosshairs of a deadly conspiracy.
