Previously: A ruthless grandson attempts to seize his grandfather's estate, only to be thwarted by a powerful CEO who recognizes the old man's true heroism. The drama unfolds with a shocking twist.

An Unexpected Arrival

Just as the tension between Tyler and myself reached its peak, the screech of tires cut through the rain-laden air. A sleek, midnight-black armored Maybach skidded to a halt beside the curb, its tires spraying water and mud across the already soaked asphalt. The rear door opened, and a figure emerged from beneath a black umbrella held by a chauffeur. It was Victoria Sterling. Her sharp gaze, piercing and intelligent, instantly swept over the scene, catching the glint of the bronze medal on my chest. Her breath caught audibly.

“Four-Star General Ruth… the legendary commander who saved my father's life?” Victoria whispered, her voice filled with a breathless reverence that cut through the grim atmosphere.

Tyler’s arrogant smirk instantly collapsed. Blood drained from his face, his jaw trembling as the reality of the situation hit him. His predatory confidence evaporated, replaced by a dawning horror. He had underestimated me, and now, in front of a billionaire CEO, his scheme was unraveling spectacularly. Victoria, however, paid him no mind. Her focus was solely on me, the man who had once saved her father’s life during a brutal conflict years ago.

She moved with a grace that belied the harshness of the surroundings, brushing past her imposing security detail. Without hesitation, she dropped to both knees, right there on the freezing, puddle-drenched sidewalk. Her black leather gloves clasped my trembling, frost-bitten hands. Tears welled along her lower eyelids, spilling down her porcelain cheeks as she spoke with raw emotional conviction.

“You sacrificed everything for our nation while this coward abandoned you,” she declared, her voice thick with emotion. “Your war is over, General.”

I felt a tear escape my own eye, tracing a path down my weathered cheek. It was a tear not of sadness, but of profound gratitude and a flicker of hope. My grip on Tyler's wrist loosened as I returned Victoria's heartfelt gaze. The fight seemed to drain out of me, replaced by a weariness that Victoria’s words seemed to acknowledge and validate. My war, indeed, felt like it was finally drawing to a close, but not in the way Tyler had intended.
