Before Richard’s hired security could step forward, Christopher stepped directly in front of Ashley and Toby, placing his broad frame between them and the threat.

"Stay back,"

Christopher commanded, his voice echoing with an authority that made everyone pause.

Richard sneered.

"Who the hell are you? Get out of the way before I have you arrested for interfering."

"I am Christopher Vance,"

he replied calmly, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a leather wallet containing his credentials.

"And I am a senior partner at Vance & Associates, specializing in federal family law. If you touch this woman or her child, I will personally file charges for harassment, coercion, and unlawful restraint before the sun sets."

Richard’s smile faltered. Christopher turned his attention to the airport police officer.

"Officer, may I see those papers?"

The officer, recognizing Christopher’s legal authority, handed over the folder. Christopher scanned the documents with a practiced eye. A slow, triumphant smile crossed his face.

"This is an emergency petition filed in Illinois,"

Christopher stated clearly.

"We are currently in Colorado. This document has not been registered or domesticated in this state, making it entirely unenforceable here. Furthermore, the hearing date listed here was bypassed without proper notification to the mother, which violates federal due process."

He looked directly at Richard.

"You have no legal right to touch this child today. And if you attempt to do so, I will have you detained immediately."

The police officer nodded.

"He's right, sir. You'll need to resolve this through the local courts. Step back."

Richard’s face contorted with rage, but realizing he was defeated, he spat on the ground and stormed off with his security team.

Ashley collapsed into tears of pure relief, and Christopher gently held her as Toby slept peacefully through it all.

Over the next few months, Christopher represented Ashley pro bono, securing her sole custody and a permanent restraining order. In saving Ashley and Toby, Christopher found the strength to heal his own broken heart.
